Wedding Day Make Up Tips

Wedding make-up should be simple, look natural and enhance the brides' features. It's no time to experiment with new colours and products unless you start a few months before. Here are a few tips which you may find useful to keep you looking your very best throughout the most important day of your life.

Start a few months before the wedding with a good skincare routine which is suited for your individual skin type. This will include a good cleanser, a toner (for oilier skins) and a good moisturiser with added SPF to protect the skin from the environment.

Invest in a Matte pre-base product even if you don't have oily skin, this wonder product is applied before foundation to areas that are prone to shine forehead, nose and chin mainly. It will keep you looking matte, and help keep make-up in place all day.

For a long-lasting light, natural base which will help even out the skin tone, look for an oil-free yellow toned liquid foundation. Don't go for the cheap option either. Take your time looking and getting the right shade it will be worth it. It should disappear along the jaw line with no visible marks. If your skin is dry mix oil-free foundation with your moisturiser which will help it glide over the face and last all day

Apply foundation over eyelids and lips which will create a matte base which will keep eyeshadows and lipsticks stay on longer. A light-reflective concealer pen will work wonders on under eye circles as its light, wont crease or cake and bounce the light of the surface of the skin for a flawless look.

Loose powder used with a big powder brush gently swept over the face, eyes and lips after you have applied your base and creme blush will help keep matte and make it easier for powder products to be applied. Use creme and powder blushers in the same shade for long-lasting results. Apply creme blush after foundation before powder and powder blusher after and as the last product so you don't over do it. Peaches, pinks and rose shades look great on all skin tones, and will give you a gentle blushing bride feel. Keep bronzers to a minimum or not at all as theses can look like a dirty mark against white dresses and on pictures. Always define eyebrows, using an eyebrow pencil or shadow very lightly. This will frame your face, and help define your eyes in photos especially in black and white pictures.

Keep eyeshadow shades neutral with ivories, creams, beiges, taupes, bronze, browns and use matte shadows. For eyeliner choose shades in grey, brown, navy, black and blend, blend, blend. If you want to open up your eyes making them look bigger then apply a small amount creme highlighter under the eyebrows and in the inner corners of the eyes, make sure you blend really well. A must is to use waterproof mascara in a defining shade, black/brown, black. Two coats will be enough and use eyelash curlers to open your eyes.

A brides main worry is lipstick not staying on for long, a great tip is too apply foundation and powder over the lips as already motioned. Then using a neutral lip liner shade (nude) out line the lips and also fill in the lips all over and blend with a cotton bud this will help prevent getting the lip line around the lips once lipstick fades. Use pinky/ rose shades in matte which will last longer and as it contains no gloss it won't look like grease on the photos. Apply lipstick with a lip brush. Then blot with a tissue, and apply loose powder over the lips. Again apply lipstick, blot. You can repeat this as many times as you wish so the lips look stained rather than full of lipstick. Finally re-out line the lips again and blend. If you want some shine on your lips a tiny bit of gloss or creme highlighter dabbed in the middle of the bottom lip will be enough.

For top-ups get the maid of honour/ mums to keep, lipstick, pressed powder papers, and cotton buds and ask them to tell you when you need to go and re-apply.
